Kaolin & Calcined Kaolin

Kaolin & Calcined Kaolin

Kaolinite is a clay mineral, part of the group of industrial minerals, with the chemical composition Al2Si2O5(OH)4. It is a layered silicate mineral, with one tetrahedral sheet linked through oxygen atoms to one octahedral sheet of alumina octahedral. Kaolin is further modified from its natural state by chemical treatments, physical delaminating,& high temperature heating to more than 1,000 degrees centigrade. These latter modifications are designed to enhance chemical bonding properties of the kaolin when mixed with other components & to improve the brightness of kaolin-based products.

Kaolin Splbright

Prime brightness calcined kaolin

SplBright calcined kaolin has high brightness with fine particle size. The unique coating morphology generated by Primo 94 enhances aesthetics and printability. It is ideal for improving opacity, brightness, smoothness, ink receptivity, blister resistance, glueability, binder migration and printability.

Kaolin Mattx

Engineered high brightness calcined kaolins

Mattx calcined kaolin are specially designed to combine high opacity & whiteness with high tint strength and low sheen.  Typical applications are water-borne interior and exterior flat paints, solvent-borne interior and exterior flat paints.

Kaolin Meta R

Meta R high-reactivity kaolin product is an ultrafine Particles size that enhances the strength, durability, appearance, and workability of portland cement concrete and cement-based products. Meta R can increase both the early strength and the fully cured strength of concrete due to its pozzolanic reactivity

Application

Kaolin is platy white clay that is chemically inert, nonabrasive and possesses a number of characteristics that make it desirable for use in a range of industries, including paper and paperboard, paints and coatings, plastics, wire and cable, concrete and agriculture among many others.

Wire and Cable

Using calcined kaolin, helped improve electrical and physical performance —
even at high stress with elevated moisture and temperature levels

Plastics and Rubber

The bonds between the kaolin and the polymers provide enhanced mechanical strength,
improved impact and flex strength, and a high degree of hydrophobicity.

Construction

Kaolin Meta R is a highly reactive metakaolin product that exhibits pozzolanic properties,
which leads to the increased strength in concrete and cement-based products.

Paint and Coatings

Consistency, performance and costs are the driving forces behind which industrial coatings to invest in.

Thermal Paper

Kaolin provides thermal papermakers with insulation and wax absorption while also preventing head deposits.
